Tomorrow

The big day is tomorrow. My wedding. The day I’ve dreamed and prayed about for months. The day we will official be a pair- legally bound together and all.

I can’t believe it’s finally here. Where does the time go? I mean, really- our eleven month engagement seemed to drag by, but then it was suddenly flying and I could barely catch my breath.

Everything is ready. Dresses are steamed. My grandmother made a beautiful cake. The reception area is decorated perfect. The church is clean. Gifts have been given out. Everyone knows the plan (I hope).

Tomorrow probably won’t go exactly the way I think, but I know that it will be an amazing day that I will remember for the rest of my life.

I will post pictures as soon as possible. There will be a ton, but I’ll get them all up here at some point. Say a little prayer for me, friends.

Enjoy these pictures from the last several days:

My dream wedding…

Today I’m supposed to discuss my dream wedding for the 30 Day Meme.

This is the perfect topic because, I am currently planning my very own dream wedding. And I haven’t talked about my wedding in a couple weeks and that’s a shame. You guys want to know every detail, right?!

Remember, me and this guy are getting hitched in December? Only 62 days until the big day!

My love

I will dance the night away in a giant white dress with these boots on my feet:

Pretty boots

I have a secret… I have been wearing my boots for weeks now. And they are so stinkin’ comfortable and so much better than high heals that would probably make me fall on my face. You know, it’s usually unfortunate for the bride to fall down.

Last night, I opened a box that contained a glamorous winter cap thing that I will wear in some outside pictures. Hopefully, we will have a light snowfall and I will be totally rockin’ that Christmas Wedding Look.

Things I still need to do:

– Wrap an ton of gifts for the bridal party.

– Make a music list for the DJ.

– Figure out flowers. (Can you believe I’ve put this off so long!?)

– Stuff the invitation envelopes.

– Pick my dress up at my last dress fitting.

– Attend all the fun stuff: bridal shower, bachelorette party, and lingerie party.

And I know that I’m probably forgetting about a million things, but I do have a list around here somewhere. I’m just too sleepy to get up and look at it.

The point is, I’m getting their folks. I truly am. A wedding will happen around here on December 23, 2010 at 4:30 PM!

My wedding shoes

I am wearing a huge, elegant wedding dress… I went all out and got as fancy as possible.

But I can’t forget that I’m still a country girl at heart.

They won’t show unless I pull up my dress and they will keep my feet warm if it snows.

They are absolutely beautiful and fit like a glove. And, my favorite part of all, they are so comfortable.

What did you guys wear under your wedding dresses?

Freedom

I finished my last final of the semester today. I suddenly feel free, like I can do anything.

Of course, I’m starting summer classes in three weeks. For now, I’m just going to forget that little fact.

Instead, I’m going to focus on my goals for the rest of May.

1.) Train on Justice.

Justice

We need to perfect his potty training. He’s great in the tractor or a pickup, but not so amazing in the house yet. I’m confident that we will get there soon.

Oh and he really needs to learn how to walk on a lead. I don’t think I’ll be able to pick him up next week. He’s getting HUGE.

2.) Wedding planning.

My love

Food. DJ. Decorations. Invitations. My dress. Drinks.

Attempt to not pull my hair totally out. Wedding planning is much to hard. I’m going to make some real progress in the next three weeks though.

3.) My sisters graduation.

2007

It all happens next Friday. I’m in charge of their party, which is happening on Thursday.

4.) Soak up the little moments.

Perfection

Because they only happen once.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Our Wedding Budget

Colby and I are paying for our wedding ourselves. We have decided on a very strict wedding budget of $10,000. That’s a lot of money to us, but I was surprised to learn that the average wedding in the United States is $20,000. Isn’t that insane?!

We are lucky to be having our wedding in our tiny hometown. Of course, this has caused a few difficulties because of limitations in venues, etc. but overall it has allowed us to spend much less than we would in a big city.

At this point, almost half of our budget will be going to photography and catering. I didn’t want to cut costs when it came to photography. I’m very picky about pictures. Yesterday, I decided on a photographer and we will be sending out the deposit on Monday. For $1915 we will have two fabulous photographers taking pictures for eight hours. I feel very confident that our photographer will do an amazing job.

We will be serving our 250 guests a full meal of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, and fresh rolls. I was extremely happy to learn that a local caterer will serve all that food for only $10 a plate. I know a girl in Oklahoma City that is paying $10 a plate for cold cut sandwiches. We are getting a full, delicious, homemade meal for the same price. Awesome.

Our church is only going to charge us a $40 cleaning fee. The OKC girl is paying $1600 for a church! Can you imagine? I can’t.

We won’t be hiring a limo service, mostly because the nearest one is located two hours away. They would charge an arm and a leg to travel here to drive us around. I feel like that would be a total and complete waste of money. I might get my pickup detailed right before the wedding though.

My love

Right now, I am confident that we will be coming in under budget. Things might change and their could be unexpected expenses, but right now I’m pretty sure we are going to make it.

I welcome any advice on sticking to my budget. Do you guys know of any unexpected costs that I should watch out for? Where did you spend most of your wedding budget?

Wedding Snippets

There are only three-hundred and six days until our wedding. Right now, that seems like forever, but I know it will be here before I realize it. I’m slowly making plans and figuring out how to make our special day perfect.

  1. Our wedding colors are going to be dark purple and silver. My four bridesmaids have completely different personalities and body types. To avoid conflict, I have decided to let them all pick their own dress. That way, everyone will be happy. Ashley soon informed me that the Kardashians had done it, so I figured that must be the cool way to roll.
  2. Last week, we decided on a caterer. The meal is going to consist of Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Salad, Green Beans, a Hot Roll, and some kind of pie. Plus Wedding Cake. (And probably a large amount of liquor for many of the guests.) One of Colby’s favorite foods is Chicken Fried Steak and it just fits for our “country” wedding. Plus, the price was right at $10 a plate.
  3. We reserved the church a couple of weeks ago. Our preacher acted a little sketchy though and I left the meeting feeling like he hadn’t agreed to officiate. Last week, he announced that he would be leaving in June. Right now, we don’t know who will be officiating– I guess our new preacher? Colby has a family friend who has done several of his cousins weddings, so we might ask him. This is all up in the air right now.
  4. I found our wedding invitations last week. They are perfect
  5. I’m considering using a little girl for our Ring Bearer. All the little boys in our family are infants now, but we have several girls of the right age. Jamey has already demanded to be the Flower Girl, so I just need to find someone to walk with her. Would it be weird to have a little girl as the Right Bearer?
  6. Wedding photographers are expensive. The other day, I decided to totally blow our budget and shell out $2000 for a really good photographers. I’ve heard repeatedly to make sure that I have great photography, and I’m going to follow that little piece of advice.

What do you think of my plans so far? Feel free to chip in with any advice. I would love to hear second opinions.

The post you’ve all been waiting for…

On the morning of January 4, I was woken by a sleepy voice murmuring in my ear: “Happy 13th month anniversary, baby.” I was surprised that Colby had remembered the date. We had been on vacation for a full week, and my days were beginning to run together.

It was our first full day at Lake Tahoe. I was excited, like a young child who had been given too much sugar on Christmas. I wanted to get out and explore. We drove up the mountain, planning our day. At one point, Colby casually mentioned, “I want to ride up the gondola at Heavenly.” I nodded, agreeing with him. Soon we were walking down the beach at Tahoe, taking tons of pictures.

I first realized that something was up when Colby suddenly demanded, “I want to ride the gondola right now.” Colby is not a demanding person. The fact that Colby was behaving so decisive was a giant red flag to me. Would this be the big day?

The ride up Heavenly Ski Resort was beautiful. Like everything else we had experienced on the trip, I was just amazed about how gorgeous the scenery was. I didn’t want to blink and miss something.

Half way up the mountain, they let us off at an observation deck.

From the observation deck, the view got even prettier.

Inside, I was getting nervous. I knew that Colby had talked to my parents weeks before and had already bought a ring. I just had no idea when he would ask.

Was he preparing himself?

We continued up the mountain, stopping at the top where groups of skiers were gathering for their lunch. Colby grinned, “I think we should get someone to take our picture up here.”

I looked around, hoping to see another couple with a camera. Unfortunately, we were surrounded by skiers who looked like they were all very busy. I didn’t want to bother anyone and said, “We can just ask Rita to take our picture together later.”

I turned, snapping one more picture of our surroundings before focusing my attention back on Colby.

“Well, I actually brought you up here for a reason.” Colby dropped to his knee, right there in the snow. “I would like to ask you to marry me.”

Honestly, I have no idea what I said next. The happiness of it all just overwhelmed me. I’m pretty sure I said yes though, because I’m wearing a shiny engagement ring now.

My engagement ring is perfect. Weeks before, Colby and I had visited a jewelry store. The ladies inside had helped me pick out three different rings that I really liked. Of course, they were three very different styles.

I left and Colby then decided on this ring by himself. He combined two of the styles I had liked, finding the absolute perfect ring. I seriously love everything about it.

The entire day was really like my very own fairytale.
