Tomorrow

The big day is tomorrow. My wedding. The day I’ve dreamed and prayed about for months. The day we will official be a pair- legally bound together and all.

I can’t believe it’s finally here. Where does the time go? I mean, really- our eleven month engagement seemed to drag by, but then it was suddenly flying and I could barely catch my breath.

Everything is ready. Dresses are steamed. My grandmother made a beautiful cake. The reception area is decorated perfect. The church is clean. Gifts have been given out. Everyone knows the plan (I hope).

Tomorrow probably won’t go exactly the way I think, but I know that it will be an amazing day that I will remember for the rest of my life.

I will post pictures as soon as possible. There will be a ton, but I’ll get them all up here at some point. Say a little prayer for me, friends.

Enjoy these pictures from the last several days:

Repeat after me… October 2

I’m getting married on December 23, 2010.

Most of you probably knew that… but sometimes I still like screaming it at the top of my lungs. It’s absolutely amazing and oh so exciting.

I’ve still got about a million things to do before the big day though. Gifts to buy, DJs to books, flowers to pick out, twenty pounds to lose.

Yes, I did say twenty pounds. Before October 2.

That’s when my first dress fitting is scheduled and I want to look my best by then. After that, I plan on maintaining my same size so the dang thing fits perfectly.

In the last nineteen months, I have been so mean to my body. I was a size four when Colby and I went on our first date. I had toned legs and didn’t understand where love handles even came from. It was pathetic.

And I was also starving myself. I was a poor college student who survived on $15-20 a week for groceries. I ate nothing. Seriously. In health class I had to document how many calories I consumed in a week. I was surprised to find out that I ate between 800-1000 calories a day. It wasn’t healthy, but I wasn’t really hungry. I had trained myself to live of a bowl of oatmeal and a sandwich. I also had to take a two-hour nap every day and was likely very anemic.

When I moved home for the summer, my eating habits changed dramatically. There was suddenly food and I eventually stressed my stomach out and started eating fresh meat again. I suddenly had more energy and was feeling much better.

My love

But then I started to pack on pounds. Actually, I’m not sure how much I weight I gained because I don’t weigh myself. Seriously. I don’t have a scale and I don’t “check-in” on my weight. Instead, I just watch my clothing size. When things aren’t fitting properly, I realize that something is up. This obviously isn’t always the best thing to do, because my size 6 jeans were no longer fitting in August. Before long, my new size 8 jeans weren’t fitting either. For the first time in my entire life, I was in double digits.

Things haven’t gotten any better since then, folks. I love my man, but he loves to feed me. We weren’t long, weird hours and at the end of the day, he would rather take me out for dinner than have me cook something. This winter, we ate our more than we ate at home and it was always huge meals. Colby would drive to my college town in the middle of the weak to take me to a fancy dinner.

I love him. I love to eat. But I don’t love having a tire around my middle.

So- In hopes of getting my weight gain under control and my body shaped up, I vow to do the following:

1.) Work out to Jillian Michaels’ Thirty Day Shed at least four times in the next week. Jillian and me are buds and she knows how to make me burn.

2.) Eat out at most three times in the next week. When I eat out, feel free to not eat everything. I have a problem with finishing whatever is put in front of me. That really isn’t responsible and not necessary at all.

3.) When I want to sneak a cookie, remind myself “October 2, Marla. October 2!”

Any advice for me, guys?

Life is good today

I’ve had a very long and very productive day. I spent ten hours in the big city being poked, prodded, and measured.

And I purchased my wedding dress! It’s beautiful. Perfect. Seriously, I’m going to look like a princess. It’s like my wedding is suddenly real and I’m so dang excited.

You don’t know how much I wish I could post pictures. Actually, leave a comment telling me you are dying to see and I’ll send you an email with a link to the dress online. I’m that proud. (But I still don’t want to show you, Colby.)

The future Mr. & Mrs.

I’ve recently gotten other big wedding stuff accomplished too. I’ve got the decorating all figured out, the invitations designed, and the venue set. Our wedding is actually coming together. Six months ago, I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to pull it off.

Life is good today.

Our Rings

I don’t know if this is against the rules or anything, but I took some pictures of Colby and I’s wedding rings today. It was quite the experience. I accidently dropped my engagement ring in the grass and was searching like a crazy for two minutes before I finally found it. After that, I moved our little session into the house.

7/365 Our Rings

My rings are amazing. When we went to buy my band, we were surprised to find that they didn’t make one for my engagement ring. We searched and searched, but couldn’t find anything that fit the slope of my ring. We finally went to another jewelry store where we found a double band that they fit to my engagement ring. My lovely engagement ring was sent off for two weeks while they fit everything together.

I spent those fourteen days huddled in the corner, pointing to my finger, crying. I missed My Precious.

But then I got the set back and I was AMAZED. Everything together looks so huge… and shiny.

Colby is a rockstar jewelry shopper. I can’t wait to get married, so I can wear my set around every. single. day.

My very own fairytale

You & Me

Share Your Life at Kelly’s Korner today is about proposals. I’m pretty sure that I have one of the best proposal stories ever. Seriously. Colby was so romantic. Our proposal was unique and my ring still takes my breath away. It was the perfect day.

I posted about it way back in January. Check out this entry to read the entire story.

And yes, Colby is totally a keeper. 🙂

Don’t forget to check out Kelly’s Korner for more great stories.

Freedom

I finished my last final of the semester today. I suddenly feel free, like I can do anything.

Of course, I’m starting summer classes in three weeks. For now, I’m just going to forget that little fact.

Instead, I’m going to focus on my goals for the rest of May.

1.) Train on Justice.

Justice

We need to perfect his potty training. He’s great in the tractor or a pickup, but not so amazing in the house yet. I’m confident that we will get there soon.

Oh and he really needs to learn how to walk on a lead. I don’t think I’ll be able to pick him up next week. He’s getting HUGE.

2.) Wedding planning.

My love

Food. DJ. Decorations. Invitations. My dress. Drinks.

Attempt to not pull my hair totally out. Wedding planning is much to hard. I’m going to make some real progress in the next three weeks though.

3.) My sisters graduation.

2007

It all happens next Friday. I’m in charge of their party, which is happening on Thursday.

4.) Soak up the little moments.

Perfection

Because they only happen once.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Our Wedding Budget

Colby and I are paying for our wedding ourselves. We have decided on a very strict wedding budget of $10,000. That’s a lot of money to us, but I was surprised to learn that the average wedding in the United States is $20,000. Isn’t that insane?!

We are lucky to be having our wedding in our tiny hometown. Of course, this has caused a few difficulties because of limitations in venues, etc. but overall it has allowed us to spend much less than we would in a big city.

At this point, almost half of our budget will be going to photography and catering. I didn’t want to cut costs when it came to photography. I’m very picky about pictures. Yesterday, I decided on a photographer and we will be sending out the deposit on Monday. For $1915 we will have two fabulous photographers taking pictures for eight hours. I feel very confident that our photographer will do an amazing job.

We will be serving our 250 guests a full meal of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, and fresh rolls. I was extremely happy to learn that a local caterer will serve all that food for only $10 a plate. I know a girl in Oklahoma City that is paying $10 a plate for cold cut sandwiches. We are getting a full, delicious, homemade meal for the same price. Awesome.

Our church is only going to charge us a $40 cleaning fee. The OKC girl is paying $1600 for a church! Can you imagine? I can’t.

We won’t be hiring a limo service, mostly because the nearest one is located two hours away. They would charge an arm and a leg to travel here to drive us around. I feel like that would be a total and complete waste of money. I might get my pickup detailed right before the wedding though.

My love

Right now, I am confident that we will be coming in under budget. Things might change and their could be unexpected expenses, but right now I’m pretty sure we are going to make it.

I welcome any advice on sticking to my budget. Do you guys know of any unexpected costs that I should watch out for? Where did you spend most of your wedding budget?
