Let freedom ring!

On Saturday night, it rained.

It was the most amazing, perfect, beautiful rain ever. Why? Because it gave us a much needed two-day break from harvest. When the wheat gets wet, the combines must be turned off. The trucks sit in the field. And the food lady gets to rest.

That’s me, folks. I got to rest.

And I got to go to a firework show…. where I took pictures in manuel.

I have a confession. I almost always use my settings on my camera. I know, I know. I’m a total photography newb. (Is that even how you spell newb?)

But I’ve been changed. I’m going to start shooting in manuel. I ordered three books last week and am just waiting on them. I’m going to figure it all out. I promise.

Right now, I’m just pretty dang excited that I got sharp pictures of fireworks.

What did you do for the 4th of July?

  1. That looks great!! I’m so glad it rained on you guys so you could spend the fourth not harvesting & cooking all day! 🙂

And my gamer nerd husband has informed me that it’s “noob.” ;p

  2. I think it’s awesome that you’re learning all the details about the camera. You will get some excellent photos to post for us to see!!! So many people always use the “auto” presets on their camera, so don’t feel bad, you weren’t alone. BTW – the fireworks pic was beautiful!

The Food Lady! I want to come eat some of your food! What do you prepare?

    Love the picture!

  4. I’m a photography newb too! What kind of camera do you have? I have a Canon Rebel Xsi . . . I adore it but it gets neglected often do to my lack of time and experience. Maybe we can learn together and share some photography tips. Do you use photoshop? I cannot figure that program out for the life of me! I discovered a totally awesome new website for editing though called picnik.com! So totally better than photoshop!!

Actually, I just upgraded tonight to a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I have been using a Canon Rebel Xs for the last year though.

I love Photoshop… but I cheat and use actions. They are so nifty.
